Food Safety

Free Our Food from Toxins

As a nurse practitioner and founder of a weight loss and wellness clinic, I have spent 15 years empowering
my patients through personalized education and guidance, helping them make informed decisions about the
foods they consume for lasting lifestyle improvements. Through firsthand experience, I have witnessed the
devastating effects of obesity-related illnesses, underscoring the undeniable link between our dietary choices
and overall health. Unfortunately, achieving a healthy diet has become increasingly difficult due to toxic
food additives in our food supply.

Our nation faces a severe health crisis, with chronic conditions now affecting 60% of American children, up
from just 6% fifty years ago. Conditions such as autoimmune diseases, diabetes, ADHD, autism, obesity,
asthma, and food allergies are on the rise. Investigating the causes of this crisis should be a priority, yet the
FDA has repeatedly failed to address this issue, including regulating known harmful food additives. As a
result, consumer protection must become the responsibility of the states.

The European Union and other nations have long restricted toxic food additives based on significant
scientific research linking them to cancer, reproductive harm, DNA damage, thyroid toxicity, and
developmental problems in children. In 2023, California enacted a bill prohibiting four harmful
additives—Red Dye No. 3, Titanium Dioxide, Brominated Vegetable Oil, and Propylparaben—from
common foods, requiring safer alternative ingredients. Building on this, California introduced another bill in
2024 to eliminate six harmful food dyes from school meals. Similar efforts are underway in Illinois and New
York, reflecting the growing public demand for safer food standards.

Federal agencies, influenced by corporations and outside interests, have lost sight of their mission to protect
our well-being. I am committed to creating a healthier future for Wisconsin. Its time we prioritize the health
of our communities and demand safer food standards. We and our children deserve nothing less.
